Its the season of love, or so they say. I’m not feeling it as i’m going to be very single, I don’t even want to be attached so that’s that. There are some of us who have managed to live the great romance stories that others only seem to be able to read in books. To them, I say congratulations. We singletons only have to be patient and our knights in beautiful crisp suits, riding the vehicle of our dreams, be it a horse drawn carriage or a BMW, will come along and sweep us off our feet. I compiled this list so we can, on this day and the days that follow live our own daring romance, albeit in a book. Cheers to that! Six books people! Six books that will pull you in and make you want to fall in love or relive your great romance story.
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
Who doesn’t love a tale of an arrogant man who believes he knows all and then gets schooled by the pretty damsel who for once isn’t in distress? I know I love those! Elizabeth, after meeting Mr. Darcy, believes him to be a certain type of man and dismisses him. Mr. Darcy, sadly, was only really proud. Their differences certainly didn’t stop the two from falling in love! Here’s an excerpt:
I cannot fix the hour, or the spot, or the look or the words, which laid the foundation. It is too long ago. I was in the middle before I knew that I had begun.
2. The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks
This beautiful book is as amazing as it is sad. It is a tale of an enduring love so strong that it stands the test of life, family, time and memory loss. It is a story of a love that will entice but also sadden you. An excerpt:
So its not gonna be easy. it’s going to be really hard; we’re gonna have to work at this everyday, but I want to do that because I want you. I want all of you forever, everyday. You and me…everyday.
3. A walk to remember by Nicholas Sparks
Nicholas Sparks seems to write the best romance stories. This tale is a story of how love can change you. Langdon was a typical popular high school boy. He had dated many girls and could even say he had loved one or two. But he didn’t know what love was until he met Jamie. She was the bible carrying good girl who was the butt of everyone’s jokes. Somehow, they went to a party together and after that, Langdon discovered what it was to love and in turn, love changed him. This story is so beautiful, its certified to make you cry. An excerpt:
I held her close to me with my eyes closed, wondering if anything in my life had ever been this perfect and knowing at the same time that it hadn’t. I was in love and the feeling was even more wonderful than I ever imagined it would be.
4. Me Before You by Jojo Moyes
Louisa Clark had a pretty steady and boring life. She loses her job out of the blue and takes a job taking care of paralysed Will Traynor, who has always lived an exciting life. Love finds its way into the lives of these two, changing them. An excerpt:
You are scored on my heart, Clark. You were from the first day you walked in, with your ridiculous clothes and your complete inability to ever hide anything you felt.
5. The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough
This is the story of cross eyed lovers, Meggie, a young girl and a priest and it follows the forbidden love that exists between the two. An excerpt:
When we press the thorn to our chest we know, we understand, and still we do it.
6. A Scent of Lavender by Elizabeth Elgin
Set in a small town during World War II, Lorna was married to a boring man who was by far older than her. There was no love in their marriage. When he goes away to war, she discovers love, laughter and a beautiful friendship.
